Co-Directors Jodi Dennie and Tahsin Dhirani started craftyCOUTURE in 2004 finding the need for an unique and updated take on traditional arts and crafts programs. Jodi has a Bachelor of Education degree from OISE at U of T. craftyCOUTURE brings her passion for arts education together with her interest in fashion and design! Tahsin received her Bachelor of Design from Ryerson's Fashion Communication program.
craftyCOUTURE
has
been a dream of hers as it combines her love of all things design
with her enthusiasm for empowering young females!
The two along with their passionate team of instructors and
specialists use creative tools, tricks + techniques to bring
fashion into the hands of our CC Designers.
Here's what Jodi has to say about her favourite part of Co-Directing craftyCOUTURE...
The best part is definitely meeting the new young faces! Our CC Designers inspire me to keep coming up with creative and trendy new projects. Seeing the girls’ faces
when they fall in love with a piece of jewelry or a fun accessory
that they created themselves is like no other feeling.
Tahsin and I love sitting at a brainstorming session with random
beads, fabrics, ribbons and materials and coming up with crafty
ways for our CC Designers to re-create the looks they see in the
stores and magazines. Taking fashion and design into your own hands
is empowering - and I get to see that on each CC Designers’ face.
How fulfilling is that?!
...and Tahsin weighs in on CC's inception...
Coming up with the idea of this program
was a natural progression.
I absolutely love making and creating things with my hands and
I’m
always on the hunt for a new challenge. Be it learning a new technique
in jewelry design or thinking outside the box when it comes to
reworking a piece of clothing. Jodi and I think it’s so cool when
parents of CC Designers wish there was a program like this when
they were growing up. I guess that’s true for me too and part of
why we felt the need to start craftyCOUTURE! A program like this
really introduces young girls to crafting in a totally cool and
relevant way and gives them a sense of creative confidence that
is important at any age.
